1977    In 1977 with the renaming of Huntingdon & Peterborough as West Cambridgeshire the two Districts of Peterborough North and Peterborough South became

• Fitzwilliam
• Hereward
• Nene

The geographic descriptions below are general, as there were exceptions to each such as Nene had a couple of groups north of the River

• Nene – Largely south of the River Nene
• Hereward – North of the River, east of the A15
• Fitzwilliam – North of the River, west of the A15

These ‘Peterborough’ districts operated on the same basis as the North and South Districts. In 1984 they became fully independent districts although the role of City Commissioner continued through to the early 1990s, and has periodically been resurrected by various CCs.
