Cambridge District Scout Archive

Alan Rowe SL from 1968 until his brother David John Rowe took over. DJ Rowe was later District Treasurer until c 1982.

Alan Sarah Rowe wrote ‘Flea (John Woolfenden) was a Scouter when I joined the group as an 11 year old in 1958. I went through to Seniors, under Wally Wareham, and then Rovers/Venture Scouts. Off then to teacher training in 1965 and returned back as a teacher to Cambridgeshire High School and became Scout Leader. Flea was Group Scout Leader.’

In 2019 the County school scarf was described by John Woolfenden, the last GSL, as Navy Blue and Emerald Green.

It is recalled on a local history website that  ‘As the Crown, it was used by the County boys and the Venture Scouts for meetings It was changed to the Flying Pig in the 1990s,… Based near the school it should be recalled that being in a pub under the legal drinking age was not illegal or unusual, many pubs had a multi layered social function and as a meeting space was one of these.
