In 1944, a period when some London Colleges had relocated to Cambridge, the University Rovers were discussing introducing ‘laving’ to the Rover Investiture. This was an element elsewhere and Prof Patrick Duff, Senior Treasurer for the University Crew, wrote of ‘washing and buffets’, in describing this proposal, which suggests other local variations, these elements being missing from the Cambridge ceremony.
The following three pictures are from a Rover Scout Investiture in the 13th Cambridge Crew. After the advent of berets, somewhere between 1949 and 1966; possibly, from context of the donation, one of the last to be undertaken.
