Within the boundaries of Cambridge City, all the south side of the river Cam, and in addition the NW corner just north of the river known as Newnham, outside the city eastern side Fen Ditton, Western side Grantchester, bound  by other districts Cambridge North, Newmarket, Granta , Cambridge Crafts Hill.

One of the three Districts formed from Cambridge District in 1984 alongside Cambridge North and Cambridge Crafts Hill.  The original Groups were:
