12th Cambridge 1911 – date

Cambridge District Scout Archive

The 12th Cambridge Scout Group (variously Milton Road County School, Viscountess Clifden’s Own, Viscount Clifden’s Own, City of Cambridge) holds details much of it’s own history and is very aware of the all those who have gone before.

The founder John Morrish, soon to become John Murrish, was joint SM at the 10th Cambridge with Howard Mallett. The 10th was based out of Victoria Road Congregational Church and the troop gained a number of recruits from Milton Road School possibly pushing numbers above what was usual for the era. Howard wrote to John in August 1911 with regards to dividing the troop, either continuing a conversation or initiating the idea and whist no absolute date is given for the 12th the ‘new’ 10th started on 8th September 1911.

1913

A fuller history has not yet been attempted here because these records are currently safe with the Group, although being both longstanding and active much of their past informs the general pages on this site. This page is a growing depository of 12th material.
