Gang Show Participants

Cambridge District Scout Archive

Participants came from a Group and later when the Gang Shows became a District event from Guides and Scouts, Cubs, Rangers, Ventures and leaders across Cambridge, Crafts Hill and beyond.

The archives do not hold records that demonstrate that the names of all the participants have been previously published.  They will not be published here unless it becomes clear that they are already in the public domain.

Records from 1984 and 1986, list the following Scout Groups

  • 1st, 4th, 11th/9th, 12th, 13th,  14th, 15th, 16th, 26th, 27th, 28th, 29th, 32nd, 44th, 50th, 54th, 57th, Sir James Cockburn VSU
  • those outside Cambridge District 1st Willingham, 1st Bar Hill, 6th/17th, 1st Histon, 1st Comburton, 1st Oakington
  • and District and County roles , including the CC Alan McKenzie, DC’s Cambridge North and Cambridge South and members of the Fellowship.

The 3rd (Kings College School) and 5th (Perse) and 48th are absent from this sample as are the 10th, which stepped outside the Scout Association in 1984.

In 1986 they ran to 26 ‘girls and 40 ‘boys’, some of whom were born over 40 years earlier.

Meticulous records of audition scores, skills, experience and attendance were maintained over several years.

Year specific information on relative height, costume needs, and whatever else was needed to run the show was also collated and individual cards issued for the parts to be played.
