B.-P. – Doctor Artium Scouticaram

Cambridge District Scout Archive

B.-P. was presented with this honour by the Cambridge University Rover Scouts in 1922 and offered again in 1931.

The Doctor of Arts (D.A.) is frequently conferred as an honorary degree with the added designation of honoris causa.  The Doctor Artium Scouticaram is not an established honour and I have not come across any other examples.

In 1922 when he attended a Rally at Queens’ College and was hosted by Rev C T Wood.  In the evening he joined the University Rover Scouts before attending and contributing to a discussion on Militarism at the Cambridge Union.  Following this he wrote to C T Wood.

The second was in his visit of 1931 at which he received an Honourary Doctor of Laws from Cambridge University and was again offered the informal Doctor Artium Scouticaram by the Rovers.  He acknowledged the honour and recalled the first presentation if the University Rovers did not.
